PUE and DCiE of a data center

PUE and DCiE, developed by the Green Grid, are two key metrics for measuring and benchmarking data center energy efficiency.
PUE = Total facility power / ITE power, 1.0 for perfect, with 1.5 common, a lower PUE indicates a better energy efficiency.
DCiE = ITE power / Total facility power x 100%, is PUE’s inverse, higher is better.
These metrics enable benchmarking, sustainability, cost reduction and ROI improvement.

Owners specify an expected PUE for their data center to quickly estimate total power consumption for a given IT load. For example, a 20 MW IT load with a PUE of 1.5 requires 30 MW total power.
