Air in Water and Water in Air

Water in Air:

The amount of water vapor in the air plays an important role in an air-conditioning system. It affects temperature & humidity control, energy savings, corrosion, condensation control, and human comfort.

One of the main functions of an HVAC system is to control the amount of water vapor in the air, reducing or increasing it according to the application.

Air in Water:

Air is undesirable in a water piping system because it negatively affects pump performance and reduces the lifespan of the equipment and piping system.

In an open-loop system, the water becomes more saturated with air because hot water droplets come into direct contact with ambient cooling air at the cooling tower.

In a closed-loop chilled water system, air typically enters the system through the makeup water and should not be introduced from any other sources.

As the pressure and temperature within the system vary, the solubility of air in water also changes, causing air to either dissolve into or be released from the water.
