Cooling tower and pump placement – level relative to pump and piping

There are three things to consider for layout the cooling tower and pump.

1. Location – the suitable cooling tower and pump location play an important role for achieving the efficient chiller plant operation.
2. Direction – the prevailing wind direction to be considered in order to minimize impact to cooling tower performance from hot/ humid air discharged from cooling tower recirculated back to it intake. Click here for detail.
3. Level – The correct water level in the cooling tower sump above the suction pipe will ensure good pump operation. Otherwise, air may be present and impact the pump, as shown in the picture of this note.
