Performance for vapor compression refrigeration cycle – effect of the reduction of airflow rate on evaporator

In Performance for vapor compression refrigeration cycle – CDU and Evaporator maching curve , I show you the operating point of the overall system of vapor compression cycle. In this note I illustrates the system performance change as the airflow rate through evaporator changes. This usually occurs as the air filter get dirty. The effect not only reduces capacity, but also reduces the supply air temperature. If the temperature drops to a certain point, coil freeze may occur or even having condensation on the supply air diffuser. So, be careful, especially when using DX coil with medium filter (having high pressure drop different between initial and final pressure drop) or when using DX system in a VAV air distribution.
