Air handling unit (AHU) in Variable Air Volume (VAV) systems utilizes Variable Speed Drive (VSD) to adjust the AHU fan speed, matching the required supply air flow. There are two methods for controlling supply airflow in a VAV system:
- Using the summation of airflow from all VAV boxes in the system to control the VSD.
- Using a Differential Pressure Transmitter (DPT) to control the VSD.
The first method, using the summation of VAV box airflow, is generally preferable to the second method.
