During chiller selection process, one of the important factors is to evaluate the cooling load profiles of the building. There are two type of cooling load profiles to be considered:
- Hourly load profile (Capacity profile consideration)
- Annual load profile (Frequency profile consideration)
Hourly load profile is estimated based on weather data, building use, occupancy, lighting, and equipment schedules, also HVAC system types. It is useful for specifying the chiller plant capacity required to cover the load demand.
Annual load profile is estimated based on the hourly load profile with considering in percentage of occurrences for each load capacity, it provide how many operating hours a given load occur.
Annual load profile is used for proper selection of chiller plant alternatives capacity and number. It also used for estimated the total annual energy consumption.
With consideration both type of cooling load profiles, the chiller plant configuration will as close as the same thing as it actually run in the actual demand or having good performance for the wide range of building load.
