Input or Output Identification: From the perspective of the controller, any signal received is considered an Input, and any signal sent is considered an Output.
Analog Signal: AI or AO (Analog Input or Analog Output)
An analog signal is a continuous signal or value that can represent a range of measurements. Examples include an air temperature of 22 °C, a voltage range of 2–10 V DC, or a current range of 4–20 mA.
Example: Pressure, Temperature or Flow rate.
Digital Signal: DI or DO (Digital Input or Digital Output)
A digital signal is a discrete (non-continuous) signal that represents distinct states. Examples include ON/OFF, OPEN/CLOSED, or other binary conditions.
Example: Control valve status or Filter clog alarm status.

ในการระบุว่าสัญญาณอันไหนเป็น Input หรือ Output ให้คิดว่าตัวเราเป็น Controller หากสัญญาณส่งมาหาเรา คือ Input หากเราส่งสัญญาณออกไป คือ Output.
ส่วนการระบุว่าสัญญาณอันไหนเป็น Analog หรือ Digital มีหลักการที่ว่า สัญญาณ Analog คือสัญญาณต่อเนื่อง มีค่าเป็นตัวเลข เช่นอุณหภูมิ หรือช่วงของค่า 2-10 V DC หรือ 4-20 mA ส่วน Digital คือสัญญาณที่มีลักษณะไม่ต่อเนื่อง หรือมีแค่สองสถานะ เช่น การส่งสัญญาณไป เปิด/ปิด อุปกรณ์ หรือการแจ้งสถานะของแผงกรองอากาศ ว่า ตัน หรือไม่ตัน เป็นต้น
