Pumping energy comparison at partial load – the basic

In the previous note; Pump control in HVAC system – how to?, I mentioned about the two strategy to control the pumping system in partial-load when chilled water flowrate demand is reduced. In this note, I shows the pumping energy required for each strategy. With the simple visual from pump/system curve, you will see that using variable speed drive (VSD) to control pump speed at partial-load get more energy saving than modulating control valve with constant speed of pump(s).
