In liquid desiccant systems, dehumidification occurs through the absorption process. As the liquid salt solution (the desiccant, such as Lithium chloride [LiCl]) absorbs water vapor, it releases energy known as the Heat of Absorption.
Unlike solid systems, liquid desiccant units include an internal cooler specifically sized to remove this heat. Because of this, the air leaving the system is not only dryer but can also be cooler than when it entered.
Engineering Note: Always consult manufacturer data for actual outlet temperatures. In practice, the process is often “colder than isothermal” because the cooler is typically sized to handle more than just the heat of absorption.
